Privacy policy
Atadei is a home-screen app (launcher) for Android, and this website, atadei.app. Atadei is built so that what is on your phone stays on your phone. This policy explains what Atadei uses, the little that leaves your phone, and the choices you have.
Joseph Addai, of Accra, Ghana, is responsible for your data (the "data controller"). "We" and "us" on this page mean him. Contact: [email protected].
What stays on your phone
To be your home screen, Atadei works with information on your phone. Everything in this section is used on the phone only and is never sent to us. Most of it is only used if you turn the feature on or give Android's permission for it.
- Your apps. The list of installed apps, so they can be shown, searched and opened, plus your favourites, layouts, how often you open apps from Atadei, and your settings for each Drop.
- Photos you choose. When you pick a photo as a wallpaper, Atadei keeps a copy in its own storage. Some Drops analyse it on the phone: the main subject and the faces in it are found with Google's ML Kit, so text and light can be placed around them. Faces are only located, never recognised or identified. The photo isn't uploaded.
- Notifications (notification access). Shown on the home screen and in the Drop panels, with options to reply, mark as read or dismiss. A reply is sent by the app the notification came from. In HIDDEN, notifications kept quiet during Isolation are held on the phone (at most 60) and handed back afterwards.
- Music playing. The song title, artist, cover and controls of whatever is playing, to show the player. A list of recent songs is kept in memory only and is gone when Atadei restarts.
- Sound levels (shown by Android as "Record audio" or "Microphone"). Used to move the music visualizers to the sound your phone is playing. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent.
- Calendar (optional). The next event's title and time, for HIDDEN's Today card and VOID's sky.
- Steps (optional, Health Connect). Today's step count, if a Drop shows it. Atadei only reads steps and never writes health data.
- Approximate location (optional). Your location, to about 10 km, places the sun and sky for Drops that follow the real day. Without it, the city of your phone's time zone is used. It stays on the phone.
- App usage (optional, Usage access). How much each app has been used in the last four weeks, so SHŌNEN can give the apps you use most a better place in its village.
- Contacts and calls (CLASSIC, only if you make it your phone app). The caller's name from your contacts during a call, and the dial screen. Calls themselves are handled by Android and your carrier.
- System settings (optional). Brightness, auto-rotate, Do Not Disturb and the torch, when you use them from a Drop panel. Atadei only changes them when you ask it to.
Android may include Atadei's settings in your phone's own backup to your Google account, if you have backups turned on. That backup is between you and Google.
What we keep when you sign in
Signing in is optional; the free Drops work without it. You need to sign in to buy, gift or receive Drops, so that what you own follows you to a new phone. When you sign in with Google, we keep:
- Your account: your Google account ID, email address, name and profile picture link, as Google shares them at sign-in, and when you signed up and last signed in.
- Your @handle, if you choose one. Anyone signed in to Atadei can look up a handle to send that person a gift.
- Purchases: which product you bought, when, Google's order ID and purchase token, the country Google reports for the purchase, and Google's record of the purchase. We never see your card, mobile money or other payment details.
- What you own: the Drops unlocked for you, and how (bought, bundle, gift, Founder's Edition or promotion).
- Launch offer: if you were one of the first 12 people to claim a free Drop, which Drop you chose and when.
- Your phones: your Drops work on up to 3 phones, so for each phone signed in we keep a code that identifies the phone to Atadei (made from Android's app-specific ID and scrambled on the phone, so the original never leaves it), the phone's name as set in its settings (for example "Galaxy S26"), and when it was first and last used. You see this list in the app and can remove a phone at any time; signing out removes that phone. We also keep the dates you removed phones, to limit removals to 3 every 30 days.
- Your Wishlist: the Drops you save for later, and when you saved them. Anyone signed in to Atadei who knows your @handle sees your Wishlist when they choose a gift for you. A Drop leaves the list once you own it, and you can take Drops off it at any time.
- Gifts: gifts you send and receive, their codes, the optional message, who sent them and to which @handle, and whether they were opened. The person you send a gift to sees your message and your @handle or name.
- Security records: the times you try gift codes (to stop guessing), and a flag on accounts whose redeemed gifts were later charged back.
We use this to run your account: to unlock what you paid for, restore it on another phone, deliver gifts, handle refunds and support, prevent fraud, and keep accounts for tax. We don't use it for advertising. We look at it only to run Atadei and answer you, for example when you write to support.
Anonymous Drop counts
To learn which Drops people like, the app adds one to a daily tally when a Drop is worn or a free preview starts (at most once per Drop per day). The tally holds only the date, the Drop and a number. No account, device ID or IP address is stored with it, so it can't be linked to you.
Services that receive data
Atadei talks to these services directly from your phone. They receive your IP address, as any website does, and handle it under their own privacy policies.
- Google Play takes payments and tells us whether a purchase is valid.
- Google sign-in signs you in with your Google account.
- Supabase hosts our account database and the server code that checks purchases. Its servers are in London, United Kingdom.
- Google ML Kit (through Google Play services) runs the photo analysis on your phone. Google may collect basic information about the device and how ML Kit performs, but not your photos.
- Open-Meteo provides weather. It is sent the public coordinates of the city named by your phone's time zone (for example, Accra), never your location.
- LRCLIB (lyrics) is sent the title, artist, album and length of the song playing, when a Drop shows lyrics.
- Deezer is sent the song's title and artist, so a music visualizer that's on screen and allowed to hear the music can keep time with the song's tempo, and the artist when a Drop shows what to play next (related songs and their covers). Nothing is sent while no Drop asks for it.
- Your music app. When it provides the cover as a web address, Atadei downloads the picture from there.
The website atadei.app is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles requests and protects the site, and loads fonts from Google Fonts. The website has no ads, tracking or analytics. Our support email is received through Cloudflare and Gmail.
What we don't do
No ads. We don't sell your data or share it for advertising, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't build a profile of you.
How long we keep it
- Your account stays until you delete it.
- When you delete your account, your profile, @handle, Drop ownership, Founder's Edition, list of phones, Wishlist and settings are deleted straight away. Purchase records are kept without anything linking them to you, for up to 7 years, for tax and refunds, and so is the record that a launch-offer Drop was claimed (it still counts toward the 12). A gift you sent stays with the person who received it.
- Server logs kept by Supabase and Cloudflare are deleted automatically after a short time.
- Anonymous Drop counts are kept, as they say nothing about anyone.
- Everything on your phone is removed when you uninstall Atadei or clear its storage.
- Your phone's wallpaper. Atadei only sets a Drop's art as your lock screen wallpaper after you say yes, and you can turn that off in Atadei's Settings.
Your rights and choices
Under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), and similar laws where you live, you can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to [email protected] from the email you signed in with; we reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission, or to the data protection authority where you live.
- Use the free Drops without signing in.
- Turn any permission off in Android's settings. The feature that needed it stops; the rest of Atadei keeps working.
- Sign out, or delete your account at any time in the app or by email. See Delete your account.
Where data goes
Our account database is in the United Kingdom, and the services above may work from other countries. Wherever data goes, it is sent encrypted (HTTPS) and protected as this policy describes.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Each account can reach only its own records, and only the server can record purchases and grant Drops. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Children
Atadei is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you're under 18, use Atadei and make purchases only with a parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child under 13 has given us data, write to us and we'll delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes we update this page and the date at the top, and for important changes we tell you in the app. Questions: [email protected].
